Great deeds of God
The woman called Ruth
God took a penniless, widowed refugee from a hated enemy nation and made her the great-grandmother of King David and a direct ancestor of Jesus Christ.
1) Ruth was a Moabite that predestination brought to light through her faith in the God of Naomi.
2) When there was famine in Judea Ebimelech the husband of Naomi moved to Moab to seek greener pasture. While there with his wife and two sons, they married two women from Moab. With the passage of time, both Elimelech and his two sons died childless.
3) The three women were left alone. Naomi was old and decided to return to Judea. She encouraged the two women to make a decision about their future, (Ruth 1:9).
4) Eventually, Orpah decided to return to her people the Moabites and to their gods.
5) But Ruth made a different decision. Ruth must have seen in her mother in law something different and may have noticed the faith of her late husband and father in law in the God of Israel.
6) In making her decision she took into account the lives of the Israelites she had been with. She must have compared the gods of the Moabites and the God of the Israelites. (What type of God do you have in your life?).
7) Ruth in her decision showed a woman with a new faith. She told her mother-inlaw, when she had made up her mind, saying, “Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go: and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. Where thou diest. Will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord (now she called the God of Israel Lord) do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
8) She was humble, kind, loved and obeyed her mother-in law, and knew how to believe in God. She kept a good testimony and it was visible. Boaz, blessed her when he said to her, “The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wing thou art come to trust.”
9) Trust in Jesus Christ the Lord God, like Ruth and you will be blessed too. She became the wife of Boaz, the mother of Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of David. Ruth, a Moabite, found favor with God and was found in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in his earthly journey to the cross of Calvary to save men.
10) She had faith and predestination was with her, because she made the right decision to take the God of Israel as her Lord and God, blessing Naomi with her obedient faith and trust with meekness and humility and perseverance, in the face of poverty with Naomi, and forsaking her family among the Moabites. It takes faith and true decision to follow Jesus Christ the God of glory. What about you?
